Whether you’re a school leaver or a mature applicant, there are spaces available for courses starting this September.

Apply today for an undergraduate degree in adult health, child health, mental health, or learning disabilities nursing, as well as midwifery.

And the great news is that it means positive job outcomes: 100% of undergraduate students and 100% of postgraduate students are in work or further study 15 months after graduation.

“The most rewarding thing about being a nurse is making a difference to people every single day, wherever you work, in whatever setting you work,” says Professor Alison Machin, Dean of the School of Health and Social Care, where the courses are based.

Delivering compassionate care

“Having that opportunity to be with people in their time of need; to be able to be helpful, to deliver compassionate care, means that your input and impact at that very pivotal moment in somebody’s healthcare journey will be remembered,” says Prof Machin.

“It’s an absolute pleasure to be a nurse and I would really encourage you to come and join one of our nursing programmes.”

Learn on the job

Midwifery and nursing courses at Edinburgh Napier are practice-led, which means you will spend half your time on practice-based learning including placements where you can apply your knowledge in a real setting.

Preparation for going out on placements takes place in the university’s Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre, which boasts some of the best specialist equipment in the country including life-like hospital wards, a home setting and a midwifery suite.

Edinburgh Napier’s courses are informed by the latest research: it was named Top Modern University in Scotland for Research Power and Impact in the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2022 results.

“As nurses ourselves, the academic staff in the School are passionate and committed to developing the careers of our students, and also to better our knowledge and understanding of nursing, so that patients get the best quality of care,” adds Prof Machin.

The staff are there to help future nurses and midwives thrive: every student at Edinburgh Napier is assigned a Personal Development Tutor (PDT) from the start who you can chat to confidentially about study, life or anything else, and get help finding the right support.

A great student experience

As the largest provider in Scotland of pre-registration nursing education, Edinburgh Napier prides itself on offering a unique learning experience that ensures you gain the skills and qualifications needed to succeed in the future.

In fact, that caring and supportive environment meant Edinburgh Napier was named the Top University in Edinburgh for Student Satisfaction in the 2022 National Student Survey.
