Lorry driver using false plates stopped by Edinburgh police for attempted theft of trailer

A lorry driver using false registration plates was stopped by Edinburgh and Dalkeith road policing officers after attempting to steal a trailer in Lanarkshire.

The DAF tractor unit was pulled over by police after the incident in Hamilton.

Details and a picture of the vehicle were released in a tweet by Road Policing Scotland on Monday morning.

The post read: "This tractor unit was stopped by #EdinburghRP & #DalkeithRP after an attempted theft of a semi trailer in Hamilton.

"Driver reported for various offences including expired licence, no insurance, driving on false plates, attempt theft, drug possession & dangerous vehicle defects."
