Kwik Fit rolls out special workout to shift spare tyres
The back-to-basics fitness class, consisting of tyre flips, lifts and throws – during which participants can expect to burn up to 1200 calories – is being trialled in south-west Edinburgh. Each free session lasts 30 minutes and will run on three Sunday mornings this month.
The class, devised by Kwik Fit technicians and personal trainer Mikah Simpson, has previously been run in London. Following high demand for the sessions, the trial was extended to Edinburgh, with sessions to take place on January 17, 24 and 31.

Barry Angus, centre manager at Kwik Fit Morningside, says at this time of year people are sick of hearing about faddy diet plans.
“We think people would prefer to see some fun put back into fitness,” he said.
“We decided to trial a no-nonsense fitness class using only a handful of tyres, in the car park of our Edinburgh centre. So for anyone who over-indulged over the Christmas period, our trial sessions are open to help shift any ‘spare tyres’, with our spare tyres!”

Hide AdMikah says there is no doubt tyres are a brilliant foundation to a workout.
“Not only for lifting, but on the floor during cardio exercises,” he said. “The most important thing when getting fit is to simply get started and do something you enjoy. We promise to create a fun atmosphere and leave participants feeling that they’ve done something worthwhile.”
For those who can’t make it to the classes, Kwik Fit have released a ‘Fit Kwik’ fitness plan and a series of instructional videos for people to try at home.
All you need is a spare car tyre.
