Hearts make their second trip to Methil in the space of the month as they face East Fife in their fourth and final Betfred Cup group stage fixture.

A draw will confirm the Tynecastle side’s place in the last-16 after winning their opening three matches against Inverness CT, Cowdenbeath and Raith Rovers.

Hearts continued their winning start to the season at the weekend, making it seven from seven, with a win over Inverness in the Championship.

Tuesday night’s opponents have had a slow start to their league season but come into it on a high after beating Dumbarton 2-1.

Hearts team news: Robbie Neilson will be without Craig Gordon, Liam Boyce and Michael Smith (international duty), while Josh Ginnelly and Jordan Roberts are set to sit out. There could be a return for Jamie Walker who missed the weekend’s win over Inverness CT in the league.

Possible starting XI: Stewart; Brandon, Halkett, Berra, Kingsley; Lee, Irving; Henderson, Walker, Frear; Wighton.

East Fife team news: Manager Darren Young revealed he may rest one or two after the club’s first league win on Saturday against Dumbarton.

Last (competitive) meeting: It was a disappointing one for Hearts when Craig Levein’s side met the Fifers at Methil in last season’s competition. The teams drew 1-1 with Jamie Walker opening the scoring for the visitors. A second half Chris Duggan goal took the game to penalties for the bonus point which Hearts lost.

Key stat: Hearts are going in search of their eighth consecutive win. The last time they managed such a feat was during the 2014/15 season in the Championship.

Referee: Euan Anderson – The official will be taking charge of just his sixth Hearts match, the last being the 5-2 win over St Mirren under the interim charge of Austin MacPhee last season.
