Lothians cyclist Evan Oliphant will be back at the scene of a triumph earlier in his career when he lines up at the Beaumont Trophy in Northumberland on Sunday.

Oliphant, now racing for the Wheelbase Altura squad, posted a victory in 2006 while competing for Recycling.co.uk and finished sixth three years ago. The 35-year-old, who will be relishing the opportunity to make an impression again this time around, features on a start sheet that includes four previous winners as well as teams from Italy and France and a young group racing in Great Britain colours. The 117-mile event will be contested over a tough circuit that features a strength sapping
ascent of the Ryals climb and will be a final opportunity for leading riders to test themselves before the following week’s British Road Race Championships on the Isle of Man.
