Scotland have called Edinburgh back-row forward Cornell du Preez into their squad as they continue to assess a number of injuries sustained in Saturday's dramatic 23-22 loss to Australia at BT Murrayfield.

With loose forwards John Hardie and Ryan Wilson two of the main concerns, and Josh Strauss still not fit, coach Vern Cotter has brought in the South Africa-born 25-year-old, who qualified for Scotland in September on the residency rules.

A Scotland team spokesman said: “Ryan Wilson suffered a laceration to his ankle in the fifth minute of the match which required medical attention at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. He rejoined the team after the match.

“Lock Richie Gray underwent a head injury assessment [HIA] and returned to the field. He must now complete the third part of the HIA process today [48-hours post-match] to be considered available for Saturday.

“John Hardie suffered a concussion, as well as a knee and ankle sprain. He is now subject to graduated return to play protocols for his head injury, as well as ongoing rehab and medical management for his leg.”
